Is It Worth It to Spend Your Lifetime Trying to Become Wealthy?
If you look at these research data....
A study led by the late Dr. Ed Diener, world’s leading scholar of happiness for decades, compared the happiness levels of 100 of the wealthiest people in the US, and 100 ordinary people, each matching the former’s geographical region.
Contrary to many people’s belief that the wealthiest must be much happier, the researchers found that the wealthiest people are barely happier than the average non-wealthy people, statistically.
When asked about the influence of money on happiness, as many as 77% of the wealthiest maintained that money can increase OR decrease happiness, and ALL of them said money cannot guarantee happiness.
Furthermore, some of them specifically said that money reduces their happiness, or, “money makes it harder to be happy”.
So, it appears that the relationship of wealth and happiness is far from what many believe.
In other words, “wealthy people must be happy” is an illusion.
This raises a question relevant to us ordinary people:
Is it worth all the efforts, time, and sacrifices so many of us are devoting our whole lives in, trying to rise from average income to be wealthy?
As when, if ever, we get there, we would not be much happier, if at all….
It might be wiser to put our efforts directly into building happiness!
